Meet the Team

Founder + Artistic Director

Jessie Ferguson, born and raised in Houston, Texas, holds a BFA in Dance from the George Mason University School of Dance. She began her dance training at Move Dance and Fitness under Mallorie Marion and is a 2020 graduate of the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, where she trained under Janie Carothers and Courtney D. Jones.

Throughout her training, Jessie has performed works by Martha Graham, Sidra Bell, Amy Miller, Janie Carothers, Gage Self, Courtney D. Jones, Anna Lopez, and Hadiya Matthews, among others. A highlight of her performance career includes dancing Steps in the Street by Martha Graham, an experience that deepened her appreciation for lineage, discipline, and the emotional rigor of modern dance.

Choreographically, Jessie has developed a voice grounded in curiosity, connection, and the power of movement as a form of communication. In 2022, she was selected for the Aimed Dance Emerging Choreographer Fellowship through the Young Artists Program, where she premiered Telephone. Her work When the Owl Came to Me was presented at the 2023 Barnstorm Dance Fest in Houston, TX; DPRTRE7 was performed by BOOT Dance Project at {254}DANCEFEST in Waco, TX in January 2025; and FORGE was performed by BOOT Dance Project at Break-In Dance Fest in Houston, TX in August 2025. Jessie was also commissioned by Rice University to create a new work for their Fall 2024 performance.

As the Founder and Artistic Director of BOOT Dance Project, Jessie leads a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for Texas-based dance artists and audiences. BOOT focuses on fostering growth, education, and community through performances, artist development initiatives, and audience engagement programs.

As an educator, Jessie is passionate about nurturing and mentoring young artists to expand both their technical and creative potential. Since 2019, she has served as a part-time faculty member and choreographer for Move Dance Family and has taught and choreographed across multiple competitive studios and pre-professional programs throughout Texas—encouraging every dancer to approach their craft with artistry, intention, and authenticity.
