Amirys Trinidad

Amirys Trinidad Maldonado is currently in her first year attending the George Mason University School of Dance, where she is pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts under the direction of SusanShields. Originally from Puerto Rico, Amirys began dancing at the age of two at a small balletacademy and has since developed a deep-rooted passion for movement and performance. Shegraduated from Houston’s Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a Dance Major, where she trained in a conservatory setting under the chairmanship of Janie Carothers and Courtney D. Jones. She has also received additional training through summer intensives at programs such as MODAS Dance and Ballet Hispánico, which helped broaden her technical foundation and artistic range.

Throughout her years of concert dance, Amirys’s pre-professional development has been enriched by a range of residencies led by, but not limited to, renowned artists such as Robyn Mineko Williams, Jennifer Archibald, Roderick George, Brandon Colman, Betsy McMillan, Antonion Brown, Layla Amis, and Chris Bloom. These experiences have played a significant role in shaping her versatility and artistic curiosity. Now, as a student at George Mason, Amirys continues to explore her artistic voice through both performance and creative exploration.

As Amirys progresses in her journey, she aims to create work that challenges perspectives and reflects the physical nature of dance. One of her greatest aspirations is to create and exist within a world of dance that mirrors the complexities of identity and experience. She looks forward to the opportunities and collaborations that will further shape her growth as an artist throughout her college journey and beyond.
