Expanding Your Dance Experience: What BOOT Camp: Break-In Dance Fest Is All About

Many young dancers grow up in the world of competitive dance, including the founder of BOOT, Jessie Ferguson. Dancers train hard, perform many weekends of the year, and build strong technical foundations. That experience can be incredibly valuable, and for many dancers, it’s where confidence, discipline, and performance quality are first developed.

But there’s another side of the dance world that competitive dancers don’t always get to see—the world of concert dance.

BOOT Camp, happening August 1–3 as part of Break-In Dance Fest, is designed to introduce dancers ages 9–18+ to that side of the field. It’s a space where dancers can:

  • Train with working emerging and professional choreographers, many of whom are creating and performing in Break-In Dance Fest

  • Learn about concert dance, where the focus is on artistry, expression, and personal voice

  • Experience a new kind of movement that may not be part of their regular studio or competition training

This weekend intensive is all about broadening perspectives and giving dancers the chance to explore how their training applies outside of the competition stage.

Class offerings include:

  • Contemporary and modern techniques

  • Improvisation and creative process

  • Repertoire from Break-In Dance Fest choreographers

  • Tools for finding your own movement voice

  • & Much more

Most importantly, dancers will be part of a weekend that bridges studio training with real-world artistic experiences.

Whether you’re curious about a future in dance, looking to challenge yourself in new ways, or just want to try something outside your usual routine, BOOT Camp is a space to grow, explore, and be inspired.
